Kristina's interest in the political field began after a stint in Washington DC as a Journalism college intern at USNews and World Report Magazine. After graduating from Indiana University - Purdue University in Indianapolis, she got her first job on a political campaign.

Today, her political work experience includes campaigns and administrations at the State and Federal levels. Three Presidential campaigns including: Senator Lamar Alexander (R-TN), Senator Bob Dole (R-KS) and President George W. Bush (R-TX), the 1996 Republican Convention, the Senate Race for Senator Fred Thompson (R-TN) and a Houston Mayor's Race of Rob Mosbacher.

Kristina also has served as a Special Assistant to Texas State Commissioner of Agriculture, Susan Combs and in the Bush Administration, she served as a Special Assistant to the United States Secretary of Commerce Donald Evans in the Office of External Affairs.

In 2001, Kristina left the United States Department of Commerce to pursue work abroad in the private sector. In 2008, Kristina and her business-partner husband opened a second wood recycling business in Cadiz, Spain.

Kristina's dream of raising money for educational grants was realized in 2008 with her first event for the Rosemary Pencil Foundation. She looks forward to many more events that unite people who also enjoy giving the gift of education.

Photo Caption: Kondwani is 15, in form two and on our scholarship program. Like many Malawian girls, she is interested in becoming a nurse. Part of her desire to study nursing could be the absence of other female role models. Apart from nurses, she does not come into contact with professional women. Foundation President Gillian Rose asked her to read from a schoolbook. She chose a passage from Rome and Juliet.

Headmaster Mr. Longue says his school near Chintheche is expanding but the number of classrooms and furniture remain the same. It is a tight fit. It has a modest library with books as varied as T.S. Eliot’s poetry, Dickens’ Tale of Two Cities, Bill Cosby and John Grisham, the latter obviously donated. Our student Violet’s favorite subject is English. She is seen here trying on school shoes we bought her.
